I'm sure most of you have heard the story of the battle of David and Goliath. If not, let me sum it up for you real quick.
The Philistine army and the Israelite army had come together for battle. The Philistine army was on one side of a valley in the Israelite army was on the other side of the valley. The Philistine army has a 9 foot tall giant named Goliath. Every day for 40 days Goliath came out and taunted the Israelite army and mocked their God. On the 40th day David had come to bring his brothers supplies. His brothers were fighting in the Israelite army. When he got there he heard Goliath with his daily taunting and decided that he would go fight Goliath. So David took his sling, picked up five smooth stones and he went to battle. The very first stone David threw hit Goliath in the head and killed him. David then took Goliaths sword and cut off Goliaths head. David's faith and trust in God insured him a victory.
There, of course, is more details to the story. That's just a quick summary.
In Goliath Must Fall, Louie Giglio takes this story, and shows us how we can trust in God to defeat our giants. The giants discussed in this book are; fear, rejection, comfort, anger, and addiction.
At church, and different conferences I have attended, I have always heard of myself as being David fighting my giants, who are Goliath. I love how Louie Giglio illustrates Jesus as being David. How only Jesus can do the supernatural, not us, and it is Jesus who has went to battle for us and has defeated our giants. Our giants taunt us, belittle us, and make us fearful. And we are like the Israelite army. We don't know how to fight our giants. We don't know how to silence them. And just when our giants are about to win against us, in walks Jesus, who comes in, takes over, and silences our giant with one stone. With one word. With one action. And just like that. Our giant is dead. He has been defeated. Our God has conquered our giant! Praise be to God!!
